Max Mode combos are sometimes best ended with a normal special, that can be canceled in a Super Move (this is called a Super Cancel) consuming only the remainder of your Max Mode timer +1 bar. Max Mode can be activated raw for the full bar, depending on your character's position (1st = 1000, 2nd = 1250, 3rd = 1500), or if hit confirmed, starts at half the value. You can have fun in training mode figuring out what works, or watch what the pros do. Normals on hit can be hit confirmed into Max Mode activation (B+C), which opens up easily comboable special moves (EX versions, by hitting 2 punches (AC) or 2 kicks (BD) with the input motion. Heavy normals often easily combo into light command normals as a type of Target Combo.
This is as basic as it gets, same as any fighting game. Normals that are plus on hit link with your other normals/specials.
